and she had gotten to my ankles when i sat up reaching towards her fleeting little legs to keep her from falling off the edge of the bed
i only grasped the air though
there was no sound
i looked over and saw her
fast asleep
in her nest between killy and me
breathing steadily and dreaming peacefully
i put my arm around her, just in the case that she would try that stunt later and closed my eyes breathing in her smell
...
a second later
adolfo fell out of his bed onto the floor of his room
...
killy ran to his aid

  • I know that feeling so well -- reaching out to grab those little legs before they go over the edge and turn them so their little heads are on the pillow (and so their little legs don't kick YOU in the head later on!).

Happens almost every night still with Antonio ... It's amazing how our instincts always kick in ... even 1 room away!!

I think I've caught Antonio every single night before he went over (he sleeps in our bed), not sure how that's even possible. Maybe someone should do a study on this!!

  • my head must be clicking one cog off or something - i didn't know it was adolfo who was going to fall off - i mean how warped is that

  • I think it makes sense, though. Your instinct was that your child was about to fall off the bed, but when your mind tried to interpret that information, it just assumed that it was the smaller, more vulnerable child who was in closest physical proximity. Makes perfect sense!
